What I look For in Grading Sites

Thinking About Your Site Design ... things I'll look for:

We've talked a lot about what good site design is. Now, as you finish your site for this class, I've tried to reiterate everything here, and put a different spin on my points.

YES: page navigation is the same place and style on every page, and except for marking the current page, it is identical.
NO: navigation "jumps around" from page to page and the button or link positions change or are inconsistent in number.

YES: page content is spread over the page using tables or CSS.
NO: page content trickles on in one long column.

YES: the color scheme is well thought out.
NO: all the colors are default.

YES: Images are well chosen for creating an effective mood that is right for your site content.
NO: The pages feel as though they lack images, or what images there are feel random.

YES: there is design continuity from one page to another.
NO: pages are so different, they look like they come from different sites.

& For Portfolio Sites …

YES: I can tell what you do for a living by looking at your site.
NO: looking at your site, I have no idea what you do or what it's about.

YES: Your site is "branded" on every page, that is, your name, discipline and/or logo is always present.
NO: I don't know whose site this is or what the person does or wants on certain pages.

YES: Your content is effectively put forward as a portfolio and resume.
NO: Your content is thin and seems thrown together.

YES: Images are well chosen to tell me about you and your work and create an effective mood that is right for your line of work.
NO: The pages feel as though they lack images, or what images there are feel random.

REMEMBER: Last and most important: stay in touch with me and let me help you!
